Reconnect: Build the Bridge

LIFE APPLICATION | Peace – Proving you care more about each other than winning an argument

MEMORY VERSE | So let us do all we can to live in peace. And let us work hard to build up one another.

BIBLE STORY

Give Me Peace on Earth

Live in Peace with Others

Colossians 3:15

BASIC TRUTH | I should treat others the way I want to be treated.

In week two, we look closer at something else Paul wrote in Colossians 3:15: Let the peace that Christ gives rule in your hearts. As parts of one body, you were appointed to live in peace. And be thankful, (NIrV). Because Jesus made peace with us, we can turn around and show that same peace to others.

Bottom Line: We can make peace with others. When God made peace with us through Jesus, God showed us that peace with others is possible. This doesn’t mean that it will be easy, but peace is worth the effort it takes to make it. We pray that kids will discover the ways they can live at peace with the people in their life.

Message to Parents

50,000 HOURS!!!  That’s the average time you have with your kids from the time they’re born until they leave the house.  My oldest daughter just turned 17 which means I only have 2800 hours left!!!  That’s scary and sad for me all at the same time…but how am I investing in that time we have left together?  I want her to see that I spent as much quality time with her as I could before she goes off into this world.  What about you?  How are you investing your time with your kids (they’ll be 17 before you know it)?  Here’s a quick article that might help…

The 401K Of Kids: What are you investing in?

Now for your Kids...

Grab your Bible, a paper towel, tape, a small toy car and two sturdy glasses and get ready to experience Jesus with your kids!  Here’s your theme…Peace means proving you care more about each other than winning an argument.

Tell your kids you’re building a bridge.  Show them the materials (without the tape or your Bible) and ask them to build it within a few minutes.  Now try and roll the toy car across the bridge.  Ask them, “Why didn’t it work?”.

Now read Colossians 3:15 with them.

Share with them, “When you have an argument or disagreement, peace can help you rebuild that relationship. Peace is like bridge. And the good news is, we don’t have to keep the peace alone. We have help! “

Go grab your tape. Use it to connect the parts of your bridge to make it stronger. Once it’s finished, grab your car or something else that rolls and see if your bridge holds up (or you can use your Bible as the bridge as well).

Tell them, “Remember, Christ gives us His peace to rule in our hearts. That means we can’t really have peace without His help. He’s like the tape holding everything together. Leave your bridge up this week as a reminder to “live in peace” with others.”

Pray for peace in your lives that only comes from Him!  Have fun with your kids!!!
