Israel Captures Jericho
BASIC TRUTH | I can trust God no matter what.
In week two, we head to Joshua 5:13-6:20. God recently chose Joshua as the next leader of the Israelites. Joshua’s first task was a doozy. He was leading God’s people into the promise land, including taking the giant city of Jericho. God’s plan might have seemed a bit crazy, but Joshua had confidence that God’s plan would work. He led the people, and God came through for them.
Bottom Line: God’s plan is the best plan. The writers of the Bible remind us over and over that the plans we make are nothing compared to the plans God has for our life. We pray that kids will start to discover how much God loves them and wants what’s best for them. When we follow God’s plan, we can have confidence that it’s the best plan.
Message to Parents
What’s the best gift for Dad on Father’s Day? How about a bouquet of meat sticks from Manly Man Co. or the Throw Throw Burrito Card Game or my favorite, the “What I Love About Dad, by Me” book. Here’s a list of 25 gifts for the favorite Dad in your life.
Now for your Kids...
Grab your Bible, some index cards (or pieces of paper), a pen/pencil/crayon and get ready to experience Jesus with your kids! Here’s your theme…Confidence means to see yourself the way God sees you!
Start off by reading Proverbs 3:5-6 with your kids.
Tell them, “If there was a ‘greatest hits’ list of verses from the Bible, this verse would probably make the top ten. Let’s break these verses down into four parts.”
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart.’ To trust simply means to put your faith or confidence in. When we put our confidence in God, we admit that His way is WAY better than ours.”
“Do not depend on your own understanding’. We will never know all that God knows. That’s why trusting only in what we know or our own understanding isn’t the best way to go.”
“In all your ways obey him’. Because God knows and sees all, and because His plans are the BEST plans, we should let God lead us.”
“Then he will make your paths smooth and straight.’ When we obey him, we’ll always be headed in the right direction.”
Now, have them write out the words of the verse on index cards and arrange them in a windy path. Set a timer and see how long it takes you to walk along the path as you repeat the verse. Then line up the cards in a straight path. Time yourself a second time as you walk along and repeat the verse. Which was faster and easier?
Pray with them and ask God to show you the confidence we all need to truly live out these verses. Have fun with your kids!!!!
