Wisdom—Finding out what you should do and doing it

If any of you needs wisdom, you should ask God for it. He will give it to you. God gives freely to everyone and doesn’t find fault.

James 1:5, NIrV

Bottom Line

Trust God to give you wisdom.

For week two, we head to 1 Kings 2:4-28. The time had come for King David’s son, Solomon, to take the throne. When Solomon became king, God offered Solomon the choice to anything to help him rule the kingdom of Israel. Instead of choosing power in wealth, Solomon chose wisdom. Quickly, that wisdom was put to the test. Solomon had to arbitrate a difficult moment between two women. God helped him make a wise ruling that solves the situation.

Bottom Line: Trust God to give you wisdom. Wisdom isn’t necessarily something that we have overnight. It takes time to learn how to put wisdom into practice. We might not always know which choice is the wise choice. That’s why we chose to share this story about Solomon. We pray that kids will understand that God can give them wisdom in any circumstance. All they have to do is ask.

Message to Parents

What are you most scared of in this world?  For me, it’s not bugs or heights or confined space (even though the last two have gotten worse over the years), it’s the safety, security and spiritual health of my kids.  We do all we can to make sure these goals are imbedded in our family’s lives but at some point we have to let go, and more importantly,  let God.  How do we do that?…PRAY, PRAY AND PRAY SOME MORE!!!  Here’s some key topics you can focus on while you pray for your kids.

10 Specific Ways To Pray For Your Child

Now for your Kids...

Grab your Bible, a deck of cards and get ready to experience Jesus with your kids!  Here’s your theme…Wisdom is finding out what you should do and doing it.

Ask them, “Have you ever built a sandcastle at the beach or in a sandbox? What happens to your beautiful creation when the tide rolls in or a big rainstorm hits the playground? Yep, it’s destroyed! Jesus told this story about two builders. The foolish man built his house on the sand. When the rains came and flood waters rose, his home was destroyed. The other built his house on solid rock. And you can probably guess what happened when the storms hit his home. It was safe and protected because its foundation was strong.  Let’s read about it.”

Read Matthew 7:24-27 with your kids.

Now grab your deck of cards.  Have your kids build a card house on a surface that is slippery and then on one that holds the cards up as you build.

Tell them, “See, when we have a strong foundation the house stays up!  Which is just like our faith in Jesus…the stronger we are in Him, then the stronger we’ll be in our lives.  Jesus showed us how to live wisely. When we follow Jesus’ example, it’s like a building a house on a strong foundation.”
