Initiative—Seeing what needs to be done and doing it

This Month’s Memory Verse:

Work at everything you do with all your heart.
Work as if you were working for the Lord.

Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us Now

Nehemiah and Sanballat – Nehemiah 2:19-20, 4, 6

In week three, we see how Nehemiah deals with some distractions in Nehemiah 2:19-20, 4, and 6. Not everyone liked what Nehemiah was doing. He had enemies who tried to get the people distracted from finishing the wall. But he sees through their plan and focused on the job God gave him to finish.

I can trust God no matter what.

Bottom Line

Stay focused on what needs to be done.

From cleaning their rooms to finishing their homework, kids have all sorts of things that need to be done. But it often doesn’t take long for cleaning a room to become playing with the toys you’re supposed to be picking up. We hope kids will see that focusing on the task at hand is important. God has all sorts of jobs for us to do. We can trust Him to give us the focus we need to finish them.

Now for your Kids...

Grab your Bible, your cell phone and get ready to experience Jesus with your kids!  Here’s your theme…Initiative is seeing what needs to be done and doing it.

Ask your kids, “Have you seen the movie Up? One of the funniest parts is when Dug the dog—right in the middle of speaking—turns his heads and says, “SQUIRREL!” He’s so easily distracted by a squirrel crossing his path that he freezes to watch him.  Check out this video I found!”

Dug The Dog Video

“Do ever feel like Dug? It’s easy to get distracted if we’re always yelling, ‘Squirrel!’ and looking to the right or left. To keep ourselves on task, we need to focus.”

Read Proverbs 4:25 with your kids.

Share with them, “This week let’s ask God to help us stay focused on what needs to be done!”  In your prayers ask Him to help you keep your eyes focused on the task in front of you so you can finish strong.
