Individuality—Discovering who you’re meant to be so you can make a difference

This Month’s Memory Verse:

How you made me is amazing and wonderful. I praise you for that. What you have done is wonderful. I know that very well.

Psalm 139:14, NIrV

Someone Like You

Image of God – Genesis 1:26-28

In our first week, we start at the beginning—literally. In Genesis 1:26-28, we read that when God created people, God did something special. We reflect God’s image to the world. This doesn’t mean that we physically look like God. Instead, we demonstrate what God is like in the way we create and imagine, show love and kindness, seek justice, and offer mercy. We get to fill the earth with God’s goodness, each in our own individual way.

I can trust God no matter what.

Bottom Line

You were made in God’s image.

We hope to help kids understand that being made in the image of God means we can love, show kindness, be creative, solve problems, and care for others—all because we reflect and respond to God’s character. Kids will get to explore how they can reflect God’s image to the people in their world.

Now for your Kids...

Grab your Bible, a pen and sticky notes and get ready to experience Jesus with your kids!  Here’s your theme…Individuality is discovering who you’re meant to be so you can make a difference.

Read Psalm 139:14 with your kids.

Share with them, “This is month in Grove Kids is all about individuality which is discovering who you’re meant to be so you can make a difference! Did you know there are so many unique things about you and part of growing up is discovering what those things are. But while you’re learning about you, here’s something huge you need to understand. God knit together each part of you exactly the way He wanted you to be. You are wonderfully made. There is no one else in all of creation, past, present or future, exactly like you.”

Tell them, “Let’s make something to remind us of how God sees us, it’s called the Mirror Reminder!”

1.   When you look in the mirror, what’s the first thing you notice?

2.   Write “Made in God’s Image” and stick it on the mirror.

3.   Every time you brush your teeth, fix your hair, or wash your hands, stop and thank God for the totally uniquely awesome way He’s made you!
