Remote Control

The Choice Is Yours

This Month’s Memory Verse:

“God’s power has given us everything we need to lead a godly life.”

2 Peter 1:3a, NIrV

Exile

Jesus Tempted in the Desert | Luke 4:1-13 (Supporting: Matthew 4:1-11)

We start with a crucial moment from Jesus’ life, found in Luke 4:1-13. After Jesus’ baptism, He went to the wilderness to fast and spend time with God and prepare for ministry. While Jesus was in the wilderness, the Devil tempted Him. Jesus was prepared for this. Even though Jesus was tired and hungry, Jesus used what He knew from Scripture to fend off the temptation.

I need to make the wise choice.

Bottom Line

Be ready to do the right thing.

When it comes to self-control, it’s important to understand the moments when having self-control might be difficult. It’s also important to have a plan for when those moments might happen. We pray that kids will leave knowing they can trust God to help them show self-control.

Message to Parents

The shiny new car, the beautiful house on the corner you’ve had your eye on, the sale you found on Amazon, or the new pumpkin spice whatever you had yesterday.  Self-control is a daily struggle for adults…now think about your kids and the lack of training and experience they’ve had with all these indulgences of life.  Let’s show them how to manage that…

Simple Ways To Help Young Kids Develop Self-Control

Now for your Kids...

Grab your Bible, your praying position and get ready to experience Jesus with your kids!  Here’s your theme…Self-control is choosing to do what you should even when you don’t want to.

Read Romans 12:2 with your kids.

Have you ever changed your mind about something? Maybe you picked a turkey sandwich at lunch and now you’re wishing you’d gone for the pizza. Maybe you wanted to play video games but then a neighbor showed up to shoot hoops instead.

We change our minds about little things like pizza and video games all the time. But when it comes to self-control and choosing to do the right thing, God wants you to think in a completely different way. Instead of listening to what other people say you should do, God wants you to listen to what he says.

God will never ever give you bad advice or steer you in the wrong direction. God made you and loves you and that means God always wants what’s best for you.

When you’re tempted to do something you know you shouldn’t, stop and pray the following prayer:

“God, help me do the right thing.”

If you pray, God will help you. He will change your mind and help you find some self-control.
