Remote Control

The Choice Is Yours

This Month’s Memory Verse:

“God’s power has given us everything we need to lead a godly life.”

2 Peter 1:3a, NIrV

Should’ve Said No

Too Much of a Good Thing | Proverbs 25:16

We close out the month with another one of Solomon’s vivid word pictures in Proverbs 25:16. We help kids find out what happens when we indulge and eat too much. This proverb isn’t just about how much we eat. Kids will learn that too much anything, even if it’s a good thing, can have serious consequences.

I need to make the wise choice.

Bottom Line

Know when to stop.

Knowing when to stop isn’t always easy for kids. Often, it’s a parent or teacher who helps them realize it’s time to stop what they’re doing and take a break. We hope that kids start to see that stopping something—even if it’s fun—can be the wisest choice they can make. We also want them to know they don’t need to do this on their own. God can help them know when to stop and give them the strength to do it.

Message to Parents

One of the best parent articles I’ve seen in a long time!!!  As parents, there are so many things that are out of our control as parents…the friends they hang out with, how they behave when they’re not with you, social pressures, THE INTERNET!  On the flip side, there are things we CAN control that actually set a foundation that supersedes a lot of the negative influences in their lives.  We hope this helps.

How To Prepare Your Child For Life: One Thing You CAN Control

Now for your Kids...

Grab your Bible, index card/piece of paper, pen/pencil and get ready to experience Jesus with your kids!  Here’s your theme…Self-control is choosing to do what you should even when you don’t want to.

Ask them, “When you were little, did you ever run into the street without looking? When that happened, what did we (your parents) do? We yelled, “STOP!!” at the top of our lungs. Why? Because we knew the danger of running into the street. We also knew you could be hurt, badly, if you kept going.”

Read Proverbs 22:3 with your kids.

Now share with them, “When it comes to self-control, knowing when to stop is a very big deal. We have to think ahead, with the end in mind, so that we don’t get into trouble. When we take the time to think things through and to ask God to help, we can avoid getting hurt.”

Quick Words

Today’s verse is written below but all the spaces are missing! When it’s written this way, it feels like you should read it as fast as you can without stopping for a breath! Read the verse below (without spaces) as quickly as you can!

Now draw in hash marks between each word and say the verse again. Ask God to help you stop, slow down and pay attention so you have the self-control to do the right thing.
