Joshua Wins the Battle Over the Amalekites | Exodus 17:8-13
For week two, we look at Exodus 17:8-13, at a time where Joshua is leading the Israelites in a fierce battle against the Amalekites. When Moses held up his staff, the Israelites were winning the battle. When Moses got tired, Aaron and Hur came to the rescue and helped hold up his arms. The Israelites won the battle because of how they all cooperated.
I should treat others the way I want to be treated.
Bottom Line
Work together to help someone succeed.
Like Hur and Aaron, our kids need to realize that working together isn’t just about doing something for themselves. You can work with people to help others accomplish something as well.
Message to Parents
In this highly competitive environment of ours, it is easy to put your blinders on and go full force pushing for your success and forgetting those around you. However, it is important to take a step back and rejoice in others’ successes and raise them up along with you.
Now for your Kids...
Get a handful of sheets of paper, a blindfold of some sort. Clear out a space in a room, or even outside in your yard. Place the sheets of paper at random on the floor. Before bringing your child into the room, place a blindfold on them.
Lead your child into the room and tell them they have to cross from one side to the other. Say, “I’ve placed several traps on the floor. Don’t worry, they’re just sheets of paper! If you stop on a sheet of paper, you have to come back to the start. Listen closely to my voice, and I’ll tell you how to safely cross from one side of the room to the other without stepping on a trap. Ready?”
