Make Waves

This Month’s Memory Verse:

“God began a good work in you. And I am sure that he will carry it on until it is completed. That will be on the day Christ Jesus returns.” Philippians 1:6, NIrV

What you do today can change the world around you.

Under Control

Taming of the Tongue | James 3:1-6

We finish up our Make Waves series discovering more about James 3:1-6. Our words have power. James uses practical images like a horse bit, a ship’s rudder, and a flame to show us just how powerful they are. They can hurt, or they can heal, and controlling them is almost impossible. Thankfully, we can count on the Holy Spirit to help us.

I need to make the wise choice.

Bottom Line

God gives you the power to have self-control.

Self-control can be tricky, especially when we want something really bad or when life doesn’t go our way. This can also be true with the words we use. We pray that kids will begin to see that they don’t need to do this all independently. God can help them show self-control.

Message to Parents

Keeping Self-Control with our words is not always easy to do. How many times have you told your kids not to “talk like that” but then used the words or phrases just hours later? It could be just me, but I’m hoping I’m not alone when I say I could use tips to help me keep control. Deep down, I know that my kids will benefit in so many ways when they see the adults around them keep their cool.
