The Big Give: Get wrapped up in Christmas

This Month’s Memory Verse:

Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you. He is the Messiah, the Lord.
Luke 2:11, NIrV

This Month’s Virtue:

Christmas—Celebrating Jesus, God’s greatest gift

The Greatest Gift

Jesus Is Born | Luke 2:1-7

In Luke 2:1-7, we see how God’s greatest gift finally arrived. Mary and Joseph traveled to Bethlehem for the census. The town was bustling with people, leaving no room for them to stay. Thankfully, they found a place where the animals were kept. In the humblest of locations, Jesus, the King of Kings, was born and placed in a manger to sleep. The Savior of the world had been born!

I can trust God no matter what.

Bottom Line

Jesus is the greatest gift.

God’s people had waited for so long for God to send the Savior. When Jesus was born, God’s promises came true. We pray that the kids in your ministry remember what Christmas is all about—that God sent Jesus to make a way for us to be with God forever.

Message to Parents

The idea of being adopted is such a beautiful and humble act in my mind. I realize many of you reading this may have adoption in your story; whether you’ve been adopted as a child, or you have adopted a child. It’s even sweeter and more humble to think that our God is constantly adopting men, women, and children into his heavenly Kingdom today. The Grove Kids children each Sunday have been memorizing Luke 2:11, “Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you. He is the Messiah, the Lord”. It’s wild to think that God stepped off the throne to be born to a young virgin girl in a manger where animals were kept. The God wrapped in swaddling cloths had no home to go to that night, he had no legitimate earthly father, but one who would adopt him and help raise him; Joseph. At the same time, the young couple who were only pledged to be married were already facing their new life together with a child whose plan was to adopt you and me into his family in heaven. Jesus is God’s Son. He had always lived in heaven with God until about 2022 years ago. At that time, he was born as a baby on earth. God sent him here to carry out a special mission. His plan made a way for our sins to be removed so that we can be adopted into God’s family. Mary and Joseph didn’t fully know what they were doing. They hadn’t even known what marriage would look like together, let alone being married with a child. They unwrapped the first Christmas present ever that night, God’s child. Wise men brought to baby Jesus gold, frankincense, and myrrh; gifts foreshadowing Jesus’s life and death on the cross. What does God want for Christmas now? It’s for us to learn…but hopefully, we see, it’s always been you and me!
